New anime to watch in fall 2024

Let’s take a peek at some of our most-anticipated fall anime.

A weird, stripey alien with bug-like pink eyes and an upsettingly large blue mouth on a colorful background.

DAN DA DAN

Bolstered by a unique and eye-catching art style, DAN DA DAN is set to become the big anime of the season. DAN DA DAN follows two highschoolers, “Okarun” and Momo, who meet by chance and immediately start butting heads. Okarun loves weird X-Files-y stories and has spent his whole life waiting to be abducted by aliens; Momo loves actor Ken Takakura and her psychic grandmother’s ghost stories.

But things suddenly turn very real and very weird when a schoolyard dare lands Okarun with an embarrassing curse that only Momo can lift.

DAN DA DAN airs Thursdays starting October 3 on Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu.

The Stories of Girls Who Couldn’t Be Magicians

If pastel hairstyles and magical girl powers are more your thing, The Stories of Girls Who Couldn’t Be Magicians is your next favorite show. Kurumi Mirai is normally a straight-A student, but she fails the entrance exam to become a magician. The story follows her attempts to live her dream in the wake of an embarrassing failure.

It began as a Japanese mobile web novel by Akasaka Yuzuki, who intended it as a sequel to their previous work called There are salarymen even in other worlds. The Stories of Girls Who Couldn’t Be Magicians won an open contest called Project Anima in 2018, and now it’s getting turned into an anime.

The Stories of Girls Who Couldn’t Be Magicians airs Fridays starting October 4 on Crunchyroll.

Orb: On the Movements of the Earth

Netflix is airing a new historical drama this season—this time focusing on 15th century Poland.

In the 21st century, everyone knows that the Earth orbits the sun—but saying so could have gotten you killed in the 1400s. This is a problem for Rafal, a young theologist who dares to contradict the Church’s worldview.

Orb on the Movements of the Earth airs Saturdays starting October 5 on Netflix.
