The old joke about scrolling through Netflix titles for hours without actually watching anything is all too real. Fortunately, we’ve managed to pull together 150+ recommendations for shows and movies worth checking out on Netflix.
Netflix is known for its original content, and Prime Video is all about sheer quantity of movies and TV shows—Hulu falls somewhere in the middle. With thousands of hours of acquired content and a respectable slate of original productions, Hulu has—excuse the cliché—something for everyone.
Other streaming services, like Netflix and Prime Video, might have more movies and TV shows, but HBO Max makes up for its smaller quantity with quality. For one, it gives you access to the HBO vault, which includes decades of acclaimed series. For two, HBO Max’s own shows (a.k.a. Max Originals like Hacks and The Flight Attendant) have improved markedly since its 2020 launch.
Amazon Prime Video, one of the biggest on-demand streaming services in both reach and quantity of content, is slowly establishing itself as a competitor for original TV shows and movies. It’s no threat to Netflix or Hulu yet, but Prime Video is slowly catching up.
Disney+ has nearly 700 TV shows and movies in its Scrooge McDuck vault—where even to begin? We got the ball rolling with our Movies to Watch on Disney+ recommendations guide, and now we’re expanding into TV series and even more movies. Sure, there’s a little overlap, but have you ever complained about taking the same ride twice at Disneyland? Didn’t think so.
