When it comes to niche horror streaming services, it’s hard to beat Shudder. Curated by and for horror fans, the streaming service—which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year—Shudder has 720+ horror films and 55+ horror series. It’s the largest verifiable horror-centric streaming library I’ve encountered, and so far the beast best. Shudder has:
- Hundreds of Shudder Original and Exclusive movies
- Streaming exclusivity for John Carpenter’s original Halloween (1978)
- A killer blend of classic and modern horror
- Home of the V/H/S series
- Horror host Joe Bob Briggs’ The Last Drive-In
- Live watch parties
- Exceptional horror documentaries
- The best queer horror library
- The best Giallo selection
Like Screambox, Shudder has everything, from classics to new stuff. Shudder also has the best original content, and loads of it. Last time I counted (around a year ago), it had nearly 200 original movies. That’s why, on our list of recommended horror movies on Shudder, about half are originals or exclusives.
Pro tip: AMC+ includes all of Shudder—plus AMC, Sundance Now, IFC Films Unlimited, and more—for around the same monthly price.
My curated list of horror movies to watch on Shudder in October 2026 starts with the Friday the 13th documentary “Crystal Lake Memories” and ends on Oct. 31 with “Halloween” — Shudder’s the exclusive streaming home of the seminal slasher.
As for themed weekends, we’ve got a triple-dose of “Psycho”, the V/H/S series including the brand new “V/H/S/Mixtape”, the first three Insidious movies, Season 3 of “The Creep Tapes,” and two Shudder-exclusive specials: Joe Bob Briggs’ Halloween House Party” and the 2026 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards.
