‘Apothecary Diaries’ Movie, ‘Delicious in Dungeon’ Season 2, and More From Anime Expo 2026

The biggest announcements from Anime Expo
Every year, Crunchyroll and all of the big players in the anime space head to LA for Anime Expo for a wave of exciting announcements. If you were busy celebrating the 4th of July (or Taylor Swift’s wedding) this weekend, you might have missed some bombshells.
That’s why I’m writing this roundup of what I’m considering the biggest and most hype-inducing announcements from this year’s Anime Expo. If you’ve been following along with my quarterly simulcast schedules, you’ll find some familiar titles.
Let’s dive right in!
‘Witch Hat Atelier’ Season 2
The first season of “Witch Hat Atelier” ended on June 22, but the story doesn’t end there. There’s still a lot of manga left to adapt, which is why it doesn’t come as a surprise that the show has officially been renewed for a second season.
The new season will continue Coco’s journey to become a witch and learn the secret art of casting spells. However, the mysterious Brimmed Caps continue to have their eye on her, and the image of Coco wearing a brimmed hat in the new teaser trailer (above) is pretty chilling.
“Witch Hat Atelier” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
‘Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi’
“Star Wars: Visions” is a phenomenal anthology series, collecting stories from all over the Star Wars universe as told by the best animation studios.
But the problem that I always have with anthology series is that a single episode is too short. I always want to see shorts turned into full-length shows or movies. And that’s exactly what Disney is doing with “The Ninth Jedi.” This eight-episode series will continue the story first introduced in the fifth “Visions” short, also titled “The Ninth Jedi.”
This limited series will come to Hulu and Disney+ on August 5.

‘The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All’
This manga’s title is a mouthful, but that doesn’t stop its devoted fanbase. Affectionately dubbed “the green yuri” after its color scheme, “The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn’t a Guy at All” is a popular romantic comedy about two Japanese girls who really love classic rock and other Western music.
After the manga’s success as a cult classic, the green yuri is finally becoming an anime at the hands of CloverWorks (“Spy x Family,” “My Dress-Up Darling”).
The new anime will stream on Crunchyroll during the January 2027 season.
‘Delicious in Dungeon’ Season 2

“Delicious in Dungeon,” the anime about adventurers who eat the monsters they kill, left us hungry for more when the first season ended way back in 2024. But Studio Trigger refuses to be rushed, so they’re taking their time to make the second season worthy of the show’s lofty reputation.
(And I mean this show is popular. It even inspired a whole Daggerheart campaign frame! No? That’s only a big deal to me?)
But the wait is almost over. Studio Trigger just announced that “Delicious in Dungeon” Season 2 will premiere on Netflix in October 2027. Just one more year to go!
You can watch (and re-watch) the first season of “Delicious in Dungeon” on Netflix.
‘RWBY’ Volume 10
This announcement surprised me — I thought that “RWBY” was dead in the water after its production company, Rooster Teeth, shut down in 2024. But Viz Media bought up the rights to the show, and has been waiting all this time to finally make the announcement at Anime Expo: “RWBY” Volume 10 is greenlit.
“RWBY,” which stands for the main characters’ names (Ruby Weiss Blake Yang), is a 3D-animated web series about fairy tale-inspired characters training to fight monsters. Rooster Teeth produced the show from 2013–2024, and the last two “volumes” (seasons) aired directly on Crunchyroll.
The show was still ongoing when Rooster Teeth shut down, so Viz Media’s Volume 10 won’t be a reboot, but instead a continuation of the ongoing story.
“RWBY” is no longer on Crunchyroll at the time of writing, but you can watch the first nine volumes on Hulu while you wait for the new installment.
‘The Apothecary Diaries: The Movie’
“The Apothecary Diaries” began as a light novel, then a manga, then an anime, and now is getting its own spin-off movie. “The Apothecary Diaries: The Movie” continues the story from the ongoing anime, promising “the greatest mystery in the series.”
“The Apothecary Diaries” franchise is about Maomao, a servant working in the Rear Palace during a fictionalized version of Imperial China. She uses her wits and her knowledge of medicine to solve mysteries around the palace, gaining the favor of practically every powerful figure in the process.
In the new movie, also titled “The Late Consort’s Secret Treasure,” Maomao and Jinshi will travel south to solve a mystery “involving pirates and hidden treasures.” The movie will open in Japan on December 11, but it’s not yet clear when it will come to theaters in America.
“The Apothecary Diaries” Season 3 simulcast will air in October 2026 on Crunchyroll, so we’ll get some new content while we wait for the movie to make its way west.
