Netflix’s Latest Price Increase: Everything You Need to Know

Netflix stealth-increased its prices on Thursday
As a journalist specializing in streaming services, I like to get some advance notice when a service I cover is about to raise its prices. I take prices very seriously, after all—I spend a lot of time tracking them year over year. Amazon Prime Video did me a service earlier this month by telegraphing its upcoming price increase in an email to customers, even if it was a bummer to receive.
But Netflix did not extend me, or its customers, the same courtesy. The streaming giant announced its latest price hike yesterday afternoon via a quiet website update: Effective immediately, every Netflix plan is going up by $1 or $2. According to Variety, this will affect new members first, and existing members will see their bills adjust to the new price “over the coming weeks.”
So how much will you have to pay to keep watching “Bridgerton,” “One Piece,” and the upcoming “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85”? Let’s dive into the details.
Netflix’s new prices as of March 2026
| Plan | Old price | New price | Video | Streams |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard with Ads | $7.99/mo. | $8.99/mo. | 1080p | 2 |
| Standard | $17.99/mo. | $19.99/mo. | 1080p | 2 |
| Premium | $24.99/mo. | $26.99/mo. | 1080p, 4K | 4 |
The last time Netflix changed its prices before this was in January 2025. Its pricing schemes used to last for years at a time, but now it seems on track to raise them once a year. Unfortunately, that isn’t uncommon for modern streaming services.
I’m of the opinion that Netflix’s high prices are particularly insulting considering its strict policy on password sharing. That $19.99/mo. price tag? It’s only enough to get one household access to Netflix’s ad-free library (and it’s not even 4K).
If one of you moves out or goes off to college, you’ll be looking at an additional $7.99/mo. fee just to stay on the account, and $9.99/mo. to stay on the account without ads. And if you want to add two extra members? You’ll have to upgrade to that $26.99/mo. plan for the privilege.
