Where is the Olympics closing ceremony?

Unlike the opening ceremony, which occurred along the Seine River, the closing ceremony will happen inside Stade de France in Paris. France’s national stadium hosted rugby sevens and athletics (track and field) during the Olympics. Later this month, it’ll host the Paralympics’ athletics and closing ceremony events.

What happens during the Olympic closing ceremony?

All Olympic closing ceremonies must include what the International Olympic Committee (IOC) calls “protocol elements.” These elements include key segments like the athletes’ parade, victory ceremonies, and the extinguishing of the Olympic flame. The host country can interpret many of these components creatively, as we saw during the opening ceremony.

  1. Entrance of Head of State and IOC President
  2. Playing of the host’s national anthem
  3. Entry of nations’ flags
  4. Parade of athletes
  5. Victory ceremonies
  6. Introduction of new IOC Athletes’ Commission members and recognition of volunteers
  7. Moment of remembrance
  8. Playing of the Greek national anthem
  9. Lowering the Olympic flag and handover ceremony
  10. Next host’s artistic segment
  11. Organizing Committee and IOC presidents’ speeches
  12. Extinguishing of the Olympic flame

Who’s performing at the Olympic closing ceremony?

On Thursday, Paris 2024 executive director Thierry Reboul revealed to Variety that the closing ceremony will feature French bands Air and Phoenix. Reboul also said artistic director Thomas Jolly will incorporate science fiction and dystopian themes into the show.

In a separate article, Variety reported that California natives Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers will perform during the ceremony. These performances will likely occur during NBC’s live Countdown to LA28 broadcast at 10:00 p.m. ET on Sunday—transitioning the Summer Olympics to the next host city: Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Grammy-winning musician H.E.R. will be on hand in Paris to sing the U.S. national anthem.

There’s also a rumor that Tom Cruise will pull off a spectacular stunt passing the Olympic flag from Stade de France to the Hollywood sign. It all sounds very American. But you can still expect some Parisian vibes as the festivities go out on a high note.
