2025 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Championship preview
Minnesota Lynx
The Lynx are off to a great start in the 2025 season, going 14–2 heading into the Cup Championship. They’re led by Napheesa Collier, who’s averaging a league-leading 24.4 points per game, in addition to 8.5 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game, per Basketball Reference.
The Lynx also have a net rating of + 14.6 this season. In other words, they’re beating teams by an average of double digits every game. Minnesota has the best defense in the WNBA, per official league stats.

Indiana Fever
The Fever aren’t off to as good a start as the Lynx. So far this season, Indiana has an 8–8 overall record, which is eighth in the league. Compare that to Minnesota’s having the league’s best record.
The Fever are led by the cold-sweat-inducing—for opponents, anyway—play of logo-3-point-master Caitlin Clark. She’s averaging 18.2 points and 8.9 assists per game, while shooting 29.5% from the 3-point line, per Basketball Reference.
There’s just one big problem: Clark has been ruled out of playing against the Lynx. She’s recovering from a groin injury and will miss her third straight game. That could be a huge blow to Indiana’s chances of winning the game.
The Fever started the 2025 WNBA season slowly, but have won four of their last seven games heading into the Cup Championship against the Lynx.

What to expect
On paper, this seems like a game the Lynx are certain to win—particularly with the Clark news. But one potential advantage the Fever have in this matchup is pace.
Indiana likes to play fast. Like, Speed Racer fast. It has the sixth fastest pace in the WNBA, per league stats. The Lynx, on the other hand, are last in the league in pace.
Collier will get her numbers, and the Fever will have to replace Clark’s production by committee. But if the Fever can speed up the Lynx and get them out of their comfort zone, they could surprise everyone and win. Minnesota is battle-tested, though, and they’re playing at home.
Whatever happens, it’ll be exciting. Be sure to fire up Amazon Prime Video on game night for all the action.
