Xfinity TV Choice features a bare-bones channel lineup

TV Choice is specifically for folks who want to stay connected through their local TV network affiliate stations. The plan strips away the cable channel filler and starts you with a small foundation of 10+ local channels.

Some highlights: You’ll get your major local broadcast affiliates, like ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC, plus PBS, The CW, MeTV, C-SPAN, and QVC.

That said, for the price, we generally do NOT recommend Xfinity TV Choice. You’ll be better off with a digital antenna for a one-time cost of around $50 if all you want is local channels.

Build your perfect Xfinity channel lineup with add-on packs

While the starter plan is “sports-less,” you can easily add what you’re missing using the X1 Manage Channels app or your online account.

  • More Sports & Entertainment: Add this pack to get essentials like NFL Network and NBA TV.
  • Xfinity TV Latino: For an additional monthly fee, you can add over 60 Spanish-language channels, including ESPN Deportes, CineLatino, and Caracol TV.
  • Premium Channels: Get all of your favorite prestige shows and movies by adding premium channels like HBO Max, STARZ, and Paramount+ with SHOWTIME à la carte.

Xfinity TV Choice pricing is too expensive for what you get

Let’s talk dollars—and fees. Xfinity TV Choice is the cheapest package Xfinity offers, with a base price advertised as low as $20.00–$35.00/mo.

It’s crucial to know that this base price does not include the mandatory Broadcast TV Fee, which Xfinity passes on to consumers from local stations and can be around $26.30 every month. Not only that, but you’ll also have to pay equipment rental fees.

Another bummer? TV Choice only includes 20 hours of Cloud DVR storage, which sucks compared to streaming competitors like DIRECTV and Hulu + Live TV, which offer unlimited Cloud DVR storage.

According to our 2025 TV Customer Satisfaction survey, Xfinity holds its own as a top-tier provider. It landed a solid second place for overall satisfaction, with 69% of customers reporting they are either completely or very satisfied.

Customers were particularly happy with its features, where it also ranked second for reliability (69%) and user experience (72%)—thanks in large part to its popular X1 Voice Remote. Xfinity also grabbed the third spot for its add-on channels (65%), which are essential if local channels aren’t enough for you, but you still end up signing up for Xfinity TV Choice.

Why stick with cable?

With streaming prices on the rise, it’s no surprise that 51% of Americans still have cable.

Our 2025 Why People Pay for Cable report found the top reasons are access to live sports (27%) and pure comfort (26%). Customers value the signal quality, reliability, familiar channel guides, and ease of use that come with a traditional provider.

Xfinity TV Choice channel lineup FAQ

What is Xfinity TV Choice?
Xfinity TV Choice is the cheapest, most basic TV package from Xfinity. It includes 10+ local broadcast channels like ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC and is designed for you to add on specific “genre packs” (like sports or entertainment) if you want them.

What’s the difference between Xfinity Choice TV, Popular TV, and Ultimate TV?
Choice TV is the smallest package (10+ local channels) and doesn’t include cable channels like ESPN or AMC. Popular TV is the mid-level plan (125+ channels) that includes those popular cable channels. Ultimate TV is the largest package (185+ channels) and includes even more sports and specialty channels.

Does Xfinity TV Choice include the Broadcast TV Fee?
No. The Broadcast TV Fee is an itemized charge that is not included in the promotional price. This fee is based on the costs Xfinity pays to carry local broadcast stations.

How can I add channels to Xfinity TV Choice?
You can add genre packs or premium channels using the Manage Channels app on an X1 TV box, through your online account on the Xfinity website, or during the initial checkout process when signing up for a package.
