How to get AT&T free phones
First, find out if you’re eligible
AT&T’s free phone deals come in several formats:
- New customers who activate a qualifying new line can get a free or heavily discounted smartphone.
- Existing customers also get these deals when they upgrade an existing line to a qualifying plan.
- Other AT&T phone deals simply require you to get a phone on an installment payment plan.
You may have to trade in your old phone
Additionally, some deals may require you to trade in an old smartphone for bill credits that essentially make your new phone “free.” As with most carriers, the amount you receive for your smartphone is tiered based on its age and condition. If your smartphone is within a few years of its release date, you’ll likely get the full trade-in credit. However, expect to lose out on some credit if your smartphone is nearing the end of its life.
Upgrading your phone plan may also be a requirement
Also, keep in mind that some AT&T free phone deals require you to sign up for an Unlimited-tier plan to qualify for the offer. AT&T’s Value and 4GB plans won’t qualify for many of these offers, so be prepared to spend a little more on phone service if you want a free AT&T phone.
