From cell phone plans to home internet service, AT&T can cover a lot of bases for your home tech setup. But one thing it can’t do anymore is home TV service—after selling off DIRECTV in 2025, AT&T is no longer in the live TV business and doesn’t have an in-house streaming or TV service.
But if you’re an AT&T internet subscriber, that doesn’t mean you’ll have to settle for fiddling with an antenna every time you want to watch TV. Whether you’re getting TV for yourself or a large family, let’s break down the best ways to stream TV with AT&T.
Best ways to stream with AT&T
Live TV streaming providers are the best way to quickly get your home TV setup online. Whether you’re with AT&T Fiber or Internet Air, both services offer enough internet speed for a smooth live TV experience. (Satellite TV providers have premium price tags, but they include huge channel counts and great international channel coverage. Check out our DIRECTV vs. DISH guide to learn more about both services.)
Use the following table to learn about the big TV streaming services, and keep reading to find out more about our favorite streaming TV options if you’re an AT&T internet customer.

YouTube TV
YouTube TV remains the cream of the crop for live TV streaming. It’s available on virtually every smart TV platform around, offers a deep channel lineup, and includes unlimited cloud DVR storage. These factors are why it’s led our Best of the Best awards for the fifth year in a row and earned similar plaudits from sources like J.D. Power.
In our review, we were fans of YouTube’s no-filler channel lineup.
YouTube TV’s mix of live TV streaming entertainment, sports, and news channels doesn’t look much different than a basic cable package—until you notice the lack of filler.
There’s no cable-package bloat like audio-only music or shopping networks (except for QVC), just a tight lineup of popular channels like Comedy Central, Paramount Network, MTV, AMC, Cartoon Network, ESPN, Disney Channel, FS1, FX, Syfy, TNT, USA Network, etc. YouTube TV trims the cable fat nicely.
Hulu + Live TV
Hulu’s on-demand library is already one of the best around, thanks to channels like ABC, FOX, Disney, and ESPN. But when you combine it with full live TV support, it’s hard not to like what Hulu + Live TV offers to potential customers.
Hulu + Live TV’s higher price, limited simultaneous streams, and slightly clunkier interface kept it a small step behind YouTube TV in our rankings. But as our review highlighted, Hulu’s Netflix-esque library offers immense value for large households.
Our favorite live TV streaming service at CableTV.com is still YouTube TV, but Hulu + Live TV has plenty going for it—especially after the recent additions of the Disney+ and ESPN Select bundle and unlimited cloud DVR storage.
Hulu + Live TV is also unique in that it comes with an excellent built-in on-demand service (Hulu, of course). If YouTube TV suddenly disappeared (perish the thought), we’d jump to Hulu + Live TV in a second—even if we had to put up with just two streams and no AMC. The pluses far outweigh the minuses here.
DIRECTV
For traditional TV customers, DIRECTV still offers the standard satellite dishes that mount on your home’s roof or deck. But DIRECTV also has a streaming-only alternative designed for folks who want to cut the cord.
As with its standard alternative, DIRECTV’s streaming TV plans come with eye-watering prices. But if your family is filled with sports fans, you’ll find it hard to beat DIRECTV’s stellar sports coverage—it offers the best regional sports network coverage among all the streamers, along with a familiar, easy-to-navigate interface.
DIRECTV’s streaming plans look and function almost identically to regular satellite DIRECTV, right down to the interface and channel selection. But there are big visual and functional differences in browsers and on mobile compared to streaming devices.
In browsers and on mobile devices, the look is sterile and white. On the NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro and Roku Ultra, it’s sleeker in dark blue and black. I much prefer the latter look.
As for features, the standout is the Sports Central menu, which collects all of DIRECTV’s sports content and lets you select up to 32 favorite teams for live game scores.
Final take: Third-party streamers offer value for AT&T streaming
In an era where internet providers—regardless of ability—try to become one-stop shops for everything, we’re grateful that AT&T outsourced its live TV rather than launching yet another in-house streaming platform.
Although managing your own streaming comes with small headaches like yet another bill, streaming’s high-quality user experience makes up for a lot and won’t leave AT&T internet customers hanging.
AT&T stream FAQ
Does AT&T offer a streaming service?
AT&T has discontinued its U-verse in-house streaming service and no longer offers discounts on DIRECTV after selling its stake in the company. However, you can still pair your AT&T internet plan with a streaming or live TV service.
Does AT&T streaming include local channels?
AT&T no longer has a TV service, so it doesn't have local channels. However, you can get local TV channels with a TV antenna or a third-party streaming service.
Is AT&T U-verse still available for streaming?
The AT&T U-verse app is technically still available for smartphone users, but we wouldn't recommend using it because it's been deprecated and is no longer regularly updated.
