Key dates for the 2026 San Diego Padres season
Any MLB season can certainly be a slog, but it’ll all be worth it for Padres fans if the Friars can get back to the playoffs. Here are some of this year’s stretches I think will be most interesting in 2026.
- Home Opener (March 26): The Padres open their 2026 campaign at home with an afternoon Opening Day matchup against the Detroit Tigers.
- NL West matchups: The division that includes the Padres also features the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Colorado Rockies, and Arizona Diamondbacks. One key stretch will be the final games of the season, when the Padres play crucial series against the Dodgers and Diamondbacks.
- MLB All-Star Week (July 11–14): Three San Diego players made it to the All-Star Game in 2025. This weekend is always a fun time to see which players make it. In 2026, the Midsummer Classic will be played at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
- MLB Trade Deadline (Aug. 3): This year’s deadline is Monday, August 3, at 6:00 p.m. ET. It’ll be fascinating to see what general manager A.J. Preller does to the roster as the playoff race intensifies.
Best Petco Park promotional nights in 2026
San Diego is basically a literal paradise, from its incredible weather to all the great spots to hang out in the Gaslamp Quarter. But a night at a Padres game is nothing to sneeze at, particularly with the amount of awesome promotions the team offers.
This season, fans will not only want to hit up the regular Party in the Park on Friday home games or the three Saturday fireworks shows. But they’ll also want to be at Petco Park for Star Wars Weekend (May 22–24) against the Athletics and the Poncho giveaway on July 28. You can check out San Diego’s entire promotional schedule to see the full lineup of giveaways and theme games.
