What was the best anime of 2024? This year, Crunchyroll’s panel of judges nominated six titles they believe deserve the top spot at this year’s awards show. It’s a tough race this year, with lots of nominations for popular titles like DAN DA DAN, Delicious in Dungeon, and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End.
Keep reading to see lists of this year’s nominees in the Anime Awards’ biggest categories, and be sure to tune in to the Anime Awards on May 25 to see who wins.

Anime of the Year

- DAN DA DAN
- Delicious in Dungeon
- Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
- Kaiju No. 8
- Solo Leveling
- The Apothecary Diaries
Crunchyroll defines its Anime of the Year pick as one that “sets the standard for anime.” Most of the titles in this category are available on Crunchyroll, although Delicious in Dungeon is a Netflix exclusive.
Best New Series

- DAN DA DAN
- Delicious in Dungeon
- Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
- Kaiju No. 8
- Solo Leveling
- The Apothecary Diaries
A ton of new anime simulcasts hit our screens in 2024, and it’s hard to say which new title was our favorite. Personally, I’m partial to DAN DA DAN and Delicious in Dungeon, but I know that Solo Leveling and Frieren also each have very dedicated fanbases.
Best Original Anime

- BUCCHIGIRI?!
- GIRLS BAND CRY
- Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night
- Metallic Rouge
- Ninja Kamui
- Train to the End of the World
A lot of modern anime is adapted from somewhere else (usually a manga or video game), so we’re glad to see this category exists. It gives a spotlight to something other than the same six popular titles that are nominated over and over in this year’s awards.
Best Continuing Series

- BLEACH
- Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
- My Hero Academia
- ONE PIECE
- OSHI NO KO
- SPY x FAMILY
The Best Continuing Series category will be another close race, since the longevity of these titles means they all have pretty active fanbases. 2023’s winner, One Piece, has been on the air since 1999.
But you never know—a more recent anime like SPY x FAMILY or OSHI NO KO could pull ahead in the end.
Film of the Year
- HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle
- Look Back
- Mononoke The Movie: The Phantom in the Rain
- My Hero Academia: You’re Next
- SPY x FAMILY CODE: White
- The Colors Within
Best Anime Song
- “Abyss,” Kaiju No. 8
- “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born,” MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES
- “Fatal,” OSHI NO KO
- “LEveL,” Solo Leveling
- “Otonoke,” DAN DA DAN
- “The Brave,” Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
Best Main Character
- Frieren, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
- Kafka Hibino, Kaiju No. 8
- Okarun, DAN DA DAN
- Maomao, The Apothecary Diaries
- Momo, DAN DA DAN
- Sung Jinwoo, Solo Leveling
