Sling TV has three main packages (Blue, Orange, and Orange + Blue) with up to 50+ entertainment, kids, news, and sports channels for an affordable price. That said, you can get more value from some Sling competitors. It all depends on what content you’re after—our full Sling TV review has more details on that.

Sling Orange is best for families and sports fans, with a 30+ channel lineup of kids’ and sportsball networks like ESPN and ESPN2. Sling Blue’s focus is entertainment and news (think MSNBC and Syfy). If you and your household’s interests span both packages, Sling Orange & Blue has a wider scope of channels (50+ total).

Sling has also recently debuted a skinny plan called Sling Select. For $19.99/mo., you’ll get a streamlined lineup of 10+ channels that include Fox News, National Geographic, MeTV, and NFL Network.

One thing about Sling TV, however, is that it has local channels (ABC, FOX, NBC, etc.) in select markets only. If you need those channels, you can get them with an over-the-air TV antenna for as cheap as $25. (Note: My smart TV already has a built-in antenna—yours might, too.)

With all Sling TV plans, you get 50 hours of Cloud DVR storage free. If that’s not enough to keep up with all your favorite shows and games, you can pay the extra fee ($5 monthly) to get unlimited storage.

Our Sling TV Channel Lineup guide shows every channel in every Sling TV package and provides details on Sling TV’s 50+ premium channels and add-ons.

Spanish speakers will appreciate that Sling TV has two Spanish-language base packages: Sling Latino (21 channels) and Sling México (11 channels). Both cost $10 monthly, but you can get them for half price when combined with each other or another Sling TV plan.

Unfortunately, Sling TV doesn’t offer a free trial. The closest you can get is Sling Freestream, a free, ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) service available within the Sling app.

Sling Freestream has loads of on-demand movies and shows, plus 600+ live TV channels. Most channels are curated, looping, themed networks like you’d find on other fast services like Tubi, Pluto TV, and Samsung TV Plus. But there are 17 live FOX affiliates and 10 CBS affiliates for local news coverage. You also get a free 10-hour Cloud DVR, arcade, and parental controls.

Save cash with sweet Sling TV deals

Sling TV starts you off with 50 free hours of Cloud DVR for recording all of your favorite movies and shows. If that’s not enough for you, an unlimited Cloud DVR upgrade is available for $5 more per month.

Up to four simultaneous streams

Sling Orange has only one stream, but Sling Blue offers three. If you opt for Sling Orange & Blue, you’ll get four total streams.

50+ premium and channel package add-ons

If you find yourself wanting more live channels or on-demand movies and shows, Sling has four dozen premium and on-demand add-ons starting at $3 a month.

You can use these channel packs (Sports Extra, Kids Extra, and more), premium add-ons (HBO Max, Paramount+ with SHOWTIME, and more), sports subscriptions (MLB.TV, NBA League Pass), and streaming services (AMC+, Shudder, and more) to further customize your Sling TV experience.

Our expert Sling TV review and Sling TV add-ons guide have all the details.

Sling Day, Weekend, and Week passes

Sling has recently debuted temporary Day, Weekend, and Week passes to add extra flexibility to your TV watching. Here’s the high-level scoop at these plans aimed at sports fans:

  • Day Pass ($4.99): Instant 24-hour access.
  • Weekend Pass ($9.99): Access from Friday to Sunday.
  • Week Pass ($14.99): 7-day access.

Ranging from $5 to $15, Sling’s new passes allow non-Sling subscribers access to popular networks on the Sling Orange plan, including ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, TBS, TNT, and more. You can also easily add channel packs listed in the section above to the pass of your choice.

Sling TV FAQ

How much does Sling TV cost monthly?

Currently, Sling TV plans cost $19.99–$60.99/mo..

Why is Sling TV so expensive?

Sling TV is one of the more affordable streaming services—until you break down the cost per channel. For perspective, take our two most recommended live TV streaming services: YouTube TV (100+ channels) costs $0.82 per channel, while Hulu + Live TV (95+ channels) costs $0.96–$1.01 per channel, depending on the plan you choose. Sling TV’s lower channel counts (10–48+) result in a much higher cost per channel.

  • Sling Orange: $1.53 per channel
  • Sling Blue: $1.15 per channel
  • Sling Orange & Blue: $1.36 per channel
So, while Sling TV has lower monthly payments, you don’t get as much, making the service more expensive.

What are the disadvantages of Sling TV?

Sling TV’s main drawbacks include price hikes without product improvements, low channel counts, paywalled unlimited Cloud DVR storage, local channels in select markets only, and low customer satisfaction scores. Learn more in our guide, “Why Is Sling TV So Bad?”

Who owns Sling TV?

Sling TV’s parent company is the satellite TV provider DISH Network.
