How To Watch Monday Night Hockey

Cable and Sportsnet won't help you on Mondays anymore. Here's everything you need to know about watching Prime Monday Night Hockey in Canada.

The hockey calendar used to be simple: Saturday was for Hockey Night in Canada, and weekdays were mostly regional games. That all changed in the 2024–2025 season with the arrival of Prime Monday Night Hockey.

It’s the first time a national portion of the NHL’s broadcast schedule in Canada has gone solely to a streaming service: Amazon Prime Video. This exclusivity is the main source of confusion, as you cannot watch these Monday games on CBC, your regional Sportsnet channel, or even the Sportsnet+ app.

Fortunately, you can watch Monday Night Hockey with relative ease. It just requires a solid internet connection and a streaming subscription outside the Rogers/Sportsnet universe.

What channel shows Monday Night Hockey?

Amazon Prime Video is the only place to watch Monday Night Hockey in Canada. It’s part of a groundbreaking two-year deal Amazon made with Rogers Communications in 2024.

That said, RDS and TVA Sports are home to French-language NHL coverage. If your TV plan includes those channels, I recommend checking each network’s schedule, as they may carry some of these Monday night games.

2025–2026 Monday Night Hockey TV schedule

Prime Monday Night Hockey airs every Monday evening during the NHL regular season, starting in October and running through the spring. The broadcast typically begins at 7:30 p.m. ET, though occasional West Coast games start at later times.

The broadcast features a dedicated pre-game and intermission show with its own studio hosts and analysts (similar to HNiC) and often features the most compelling matchups of the workweek. As a die-hard Boston Bruins follower, I always look forward to the Atlantic Division clashes.

Best TV plans for watching Monday Night Hockey

This is probably the easiest “How To Watch” section I’ll ever write because the answer is simple: You need Amazon Prime Video. Since Prime Monday Night Hockey is an exclusive national broadcast, it’s the only service that carries these games in Canada.

The best part is that these matchups are included with a standard Amazon Prime membership. You don’t need to buy a separate, expensive sports add-on. I love this setup because it’s clean and uncomplicated. Your membership also gets you other great perks and exclusive hockey content, including live PWHL games and the Thursday night NHL Coast to Coast whip-around show.

Prime Video also lets you build a robust hockey TV package by subscribing to TSN and Sportsnet as add-on channels. This is a great way to keep your billing in one place, but here’s the critical catch: the Sportsnet add-on is Sportsnet+ Standard only. If you want Sportsnet+ Premium for out-of-market NHL games, you’ll have to subscribe directly through the Sportsnet app.

How to watch Monday Night Hockey for free

Because Prime Monday Night Hockey is an exclusive digital stream, finding a free, legal viewing option is tougher than it is for HNiC.

Your best and only real option is the Amazon Prime Video free trial. Amazon typically offers a 30-day free trial for new Prime members, which is more than enough to watch all the Monday night games that fall within that window. Just remember to cancel before the trial expires so you don’t get charged.

Pro tip: Prefer to catch the game with a crowd? Prime Monday Night Hockey is available at bars and restaurants. You can use the Premium Sports’ Bar Finder tool to find a local venue that’s licensed to show Prime Hockey.
