T-Mobile’s three fiber internet plans cover the expected bases for fiber internet service. You’ll get equal upload and download speeds on all three plans, and its pricing is competitive with fiber internet service providers (ISP) like AT&T Fiber and Google Fiber.

These similarities also apply to the internet fine print: T-Mobile Fiber doesn’t offer contracts and has its Price Lock guarantee, so you won’t have to deal with expensive early termination fees or the annual price increases you’d typically see from cable ISPs.

Where is T-Mobile Fiber internet available?

T-Mobile Fiber is a wet-behind-the-ears newcomer to the ISP market, and this becomes wildly apparent when you look at the provider’s availability. In the U.S., T-Mobile Fiber is available in the following states:

  • California
  • Colorado
  • Florida
  • Illinois
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • New York
  • Wisconsin

However, T-Mobile’s availability remains a work in progress since T-Mobile (like all fiber ISPs) must physically install fiber networks on a city-by-city basis. For instance, T-Mobile Fiber is available in a whopping three cities across Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

Currently, you’ll have the best odds of getting T-Mobile Fiber service if you live in the northern Denver suburbs, Florida, or New York City. T-Mobile Fiber also takes internet preorders to prepare customers in eligible areas slated to get fiber internet.

Why is T-Mobile getting into fiber internet?

If it seems weird that a cell phone carrier offers you wired home internet service, rest assured that you’re not alone in thinking this! One of the big recent internet trends has been ISPs launching cell phone services, but this trend rarely goes in the opposite direction.

That said, T-Mobile’s 5G Home Internet service has been a hit for the carrier. The service was one of the top performers in CableTV.com’s annual Internet Customer Satisfaction Survey and landed our Editor’s Choice Award for best value ISP.

In an earnings call with investors, T-Mobile described T-Mobile Fiber as a service that could live alongside T-Mobile 5G Home Internet as a higher-end internet offering. T-Mobile has also backed up this talk with its wallet: In April 2024, the carrier announced it would spend $1.45 billion to acquire fiber ISP Lumos Networks and wants coverage in 3.5 million homes by 2028.

T-Mobile Fiber offers great add-ons and deals for new customers. Let’s break down some of the biggest benefits for new T-Mobile Fiber customers.

Free installation

Get a free Wi-Fi router

Once your internet connection is set up, don’t worry about springing for extra hardware. Every T-Mobile customer will get a free Wi-Fi 6 router with their fiber internet plan.

Is T-Mobile Fiber home internet worth it?

T-Mobile Fiber’s minuscule network and relative inexperience make it tricky to compare it to established competitors like AT&T Fiber and Verizon Fios. By ISP standards, T-Mobile Fiber’s still getting off the ground and has barebones availability. But broadly speaking, T-Mobile Fiber offers many of the things we like to see from fiber ISPs: flat-rate billing, symmetric speeds, and pricing that won’t break your wallet.

If your neighborhood is fortunate enough to get T-Mobile Fiber coverage and you’re sick of dealing with your cable ISP, it’s worth exploring T-Mobile Fiber as a step up in your internet service.
