Xfinity Voice is a digital VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) landline phone service carried over Xfinity internet instead of traditional telephone lines.

VoIP phone service offers cleaner audio clarity as well as advanced features like three-way calling and voicemail-to-text messaging.

Xfinity Voice is a good addition to your Xfinity internet service if you want the convenience of a standard landline home phone separate from your mobile service.

Also, unlike Xfinity internet and TV service, Voice doesn’t require an annual contract, so it can be canceled at any time.

Why you should trust us: Our editorial team collectively spends thousands of hours comparing, testing, and researching every major service provider to keep our guides and reviews up-to-date.

For our Xfinity Voice review, we talked to hundreds of real Xfinity customers as part of our Internet Customer Satisfaction Survey to see how they felt about Xfinity Voice. We also work closely with our compliance specialists to verify brand pricing, deals, and terms to ensure that we’re bringing you the most accurate information.

Xfinity Voice plans and bundles are competitively priced

Xfinity Voice bundles are reasonably priced, and we can see value in adding it to your internet bundle if you want peace of mind in case of emergencies (just remember, if your internet is down, so is your home phone), make lots of international calls, or just don’t want to deal with the anxiety of a smartphone.

And if you just want standalone home phone service, Xfinity lets you do that too. Just keep in mind that you’ll still need a router to give your phone power, so you can rent one from Xfinity for $15 each month or use your own.

Xfinity Voice equipment includes a router

Xfinity Voice requires an Xfinity Wireless Gateway modem/router to connect to the internet, which is supplied on a monthly rental basis.

You can purchase your own third-party modem/router, as long as it’s compatible with Xfinity internet and phone service. For a full list of each, head over to our compatible modems guide and fastest routers guide.

Xfinity doesn’t include a handset phone with Voice service, but most commercially available landline telephones will work with the Xfinity Wireless Gateway.

Through the free, optional Xfinity Connect App (iOS and Android), you can check your Xfinity email, voicemail (including voice-to-text transcripts), and call logs.

The Connect App also allows you to answer inbound calls and make outbound calls through your Xfinity Voice number.

  • Call forwarding selective
  • Call return
  • Call screening
  • Call waiting
  • Caller ID
  • Caller ID blocking per call

Xfinity Voice also supports these quick-dial numbers:

International calling reaches 90+ countries

Xfinity Voice used to cost $20, and the international calling feature cost $10—now, Xfinity has combined both. Some of you might be thinking, “Well, that makes sense,” and others, “But I never make international calls.”

But it’s still $20 cheaper than AT&T, and Verizon requires you to bundle its $25 landline service with internet and TV.

Whether you have family in South America or make international calls for work, you’re free to make unlimited calls to 90+ countries. Here are all the countries you can call:

Xfinity Mobile is an option if you don’t need a landline

Xfinity also offers cell phone service under the name Xfinity Mobile. Unlike Xfinity Voice, which is based on the company’s existing internet network, Xfinity Mobile rents cell service from Verizon to offer its large coverage map to its own customers.

Xfinity Mobile is only available to existing Xfinity customers, so you can’t buy it as a standalone service. However, since it piggybacks off of Verizon’s network, you can get the same coverage by going to Verizon directly. This will also get you more reliable service since Verizon will prioritize their own customers’ speeds over Xfinity’s.

However, if you’re looking to get a discount by bundling cell service with other utilities and don’t mind the occasional throttling, you might want to consider Xfinity Mobile. Depending on your plans, it might be a better deal.

Xfinity Voice FAQ

What’s the difference between a regular landline phone and an Xfinity Voice VoIP phone?

Traditional analog telephone service was (and still is) delivered over copper wires and controlled by telephone companies. VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) digital phone service is transmitted as data over the internet, so no telephone companies are involved.

On the upside, VoIP phone service gives you higher-quality audio and a wide array of cloud-based features. On the downside, VoIP phone service doesn’t work if the internet goes down or there’s a power outage; standard copper-line phone service will still function without electricity and doesn’t require internet service.

Does Xfinity Voice service come with a landline home phone?

Xfinity doesn’t supply a landline home phone with Voice service. Most third-party handset phones available on the market are compatible with Xfinity Voice service, as long as they use touch-tone buttons (sorry, your vintage rotary dial phone won’t work).

Is there a charge for Xfinity Voice?

Yes, it costs extra to get phone service on top of your Xfinity Internet bill. For more information on available plans and bundles, head over to our Xfinity Voice price chart.

How do I set up my landline with Xfinity?

You can purchase Xfinity Voice, Xfinity’s phone service, by adding a plan to your cart on Xfinity’s website.

Once you’ve purchased landline service, you’ll need to set up a router and modem, even if you haven’t purchased internet service as part of your bundle. Check out our Xfinity installation guide for more information.

How do I turn off Xfinity Voice?

You can cancel Xfinity Voice service by contacting Xfinity customer support. You can do this by requesting a call back, chatting using their online assistant, visiting a local Xfinity store, completing an online form, or sending a physical form through the mail. For resources and up-to-date information on how to try any of these methods, head over to our Xfinity customer service guide.
