Xfinity offers special college student deals with your Xfinity internet service if you’re a current student. For non-students, you can still get deals including Visa prepaid cards and free streaming service subscriptions depending on your bundle or internet package.

How good are Xfinity deals?

Xfinity’s Connect More internet plan offers 200 Mbps maximum download speeds for only $25 for the first year. Unfortunately, this plan requires a 1- or 2- year contract in some regions, so make sure you read the fine print if you plan on moving in the near future.

The package is a great value for college students who need the internet for classes and sending assignments because Xfinity’s nationwide coverage means that it’ll likely be available near most large or mid-sized universities. How good are Astound Broadband deals?

At only $20.00–$70.00/mo. (Astound Broadband’s prices depend on your city), Astound Broadband’s Gig Internet is one of the cheapest 940 Mbps internet plans on the market. The plan offers great value if your household frequently plays online games or watches Hulu.

But even for a regional provider, Astound Broadband has pretty limited availability. If you’re not in Astound Broadband’s six-city coverage area (Boston, New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and Lehigh Valley), you’ll have to look elsewhere for internet service.

Best for fiber internet: AT&T 1 Gig Internet

AT&T’s best internet deals include:

How good are AT&T Fiber deals?

We’d recommend AT&T 1 Gig Internet if AT&T Fiber is available at your address. The plan is one of the best fiber internet options from a major provider, and you’ll get excellent upload and download speeds of up to 1,000 Mbps. But if AT&T offers only DSL service at your address, you’ll have to settle for slower internet speeds from AT&T and won’t qualify for any of AT&T’s fiber internet deals.

Best for streaming: Optimum 500

Optimum’s Optimum 1 Gig and Optimum 2 Gig plans currently come with a $100 or $500 gift card, respectively, and all come with a free gateway. Some plans also come with a free Wi-Fi extender.

How good are Optimum deals?

We’d recommend Optimum 500 if your household has multiple people who’ll regularly take advantage of that free Max subscription. Optimum is one of the few ISPs in the greater New York City region that offers fiber internet, and for $60.00 monthly with 500 Mbps download speeds, Optimum 500 strikes a good balance between performance and value.

Spectrum internet comes with 90 free days of Peacock Premium, but Spectrum increases the offer to a full year if you get Spectrum TV.

How good are Spectrum deals?

Spectrum’s deals aren’t necessarily as fancy as other providers that offer gift cards or lengthy free streaming subscriptions. But Spectrum’s no-contract agreements and sizable early termination fee offer are strong incentives if you’re looking to jump ship from an ISP that requires a lengthy service agreement.

What to look for in internet packages and deals

When you’re looking for internet deals, here’s what you’ll need to know to make sure you get the biggest savings and fastest download speeds.

Prepaid gift cards

Depending on your internet provider, it’ll usually take between two to three months before you get your prepaid cash card. Oftentimes, the cards are sent through a third-party company and won’t come directly from your internet provider. Make sure to mark in your calendar when your card should arrive and be ready to give your internet provider a call if you don’t spot the card in your inbox.

Price

Internet providers throw out deals like free months and cash cards to get your foot in the door, but the best providers give you a reason to stick around. Make sure that your internet price is guaranteed for at least a year and won’t drastically increase after the 12-month mark.

When you’re deciding on an internet plan, you don’t want to overpay or underpay for a package with download speeds that don’t fit your home’s internet needs. Typically, we recommend sub-100 Mbps internet plans only if your home has light internet requirements like checking emails. If your household regularly streams 4K video and takes Zoom calls, we’d suggest upgrading to a plan with at least 300 Mbps download speeds.

Prepaid internet

If you’re looking for budget and no-contract internet service, consider a prepaid internet plan from a provider like Cox and Xfinity. Prepaid internet plans generally offer slow download speeds of less than 100 Mbps, but you’ll pay a flat rate and won’t have a price increase after your first year of service.
