So you want to cancel Netflix. You have good reasons for doing so; prices are getting incredibly high. We recently ran a survey and found that more people have unsubscribed from Netflix in the past year than any other subscription service. (Check back for a full report coming soon!)
How should you go about unsubscribing from Netflix? If you’re like me, you’ve been subscribed since the old days of DVDs, and it’s been a while since you’ve taken a look at your account settings. But I’ve recently done some research, so I’ll walk you through each step to help you unsubscribe.
Canceling Netflix online
Canceling your Netflix subscription is easy. Access Netflix’s website through a web browser (if you’re reading this article, the device you’re using will probably work) and use the profile icon on the top right to access your account page.

From your account page, scroll down and click on the red button that says “Cancel Membership.”
If you can’t find the account page or can’t get into your Netflix account due to password sharing restrictions, you can skip right to the cancellation page.

Once you’re on the cancellation page, you’ll see three options. If you want to back out now and pause or downgrade your subscription, you can do that here, but otherwise click on “Cancel.”
The prompt may warn that you’ll lose your watch history or personalized recommendations, but in reality Netflix will keep your data for the next 24 months after cancellation. If you resubscribe within that period, your account should be just as you left it.

You’re almost done! On this next page, click the black “Finish Cancellation” button. This should seal the deal. You’ll still be able to watch Netflix until your next billing date, and you won’t be charged anymore.
More things to know about cancelling Netflix
Unlike other subscription services, Netflix won’t offer you a discount when you try to cancel. However, it will let you pause and skip payments for a certain amount of time without fully canceling if you don’t want to leave for good.
But there’s very little risk in cancelling for good: Netflix will keep your profile information (and game saves) for 24 months after cancellation, so you can re-subscribe at any time. Also, once you do cancel, you won’t immediately lose access to Netflix. You’ll still have access to your full library until your next renewal date.
