HBO Max may have given up on kids, but there are plenty more options for your family. Netflix is chock-a-block full of family-friendly fare, including a lot of original animation you can’t find anywhere else.
Luckily for you, I’m something of an animation expert, and I’m pretty familiar with Netflix’s kid-friendly content.
First, I’ll go over Netflix’s parental controls. Then I’ll dive into some recommendations for the best kids’ movies on Netflix!

Does Netflix have a Kids Mode?
Yes, Netflix has a remarkably customizable parental control system. You can adjust permissions for each profile, choosing from a wide range of age ratings from TV-Y to NC-17. You can also block individual titles by name, a cool addition that most services don’t offer.
To activate Netflix’s Kids Mode, open the Netflix app and click “Edit.” If you’re already using the app, you’ll want to click on your profile icon and then “Manage Profiles.” Click on the profile that you want to create restrictions for.
Make sure you have your account password on hand, because you’ll need it to change these settings.

From here, click on “Viewing Restrictions.” You can select all maturity ratings (G, PG-13, R, etc.) that you’d like the profile to be able to view, or you can click on “Kids Profile” to quickly remove inappropriate content. The “Kids Profile” option is suitable for kids 12 and under. Older kids and teens will probably want a little more customization.
Also, unlike regular content restrictions, once you designate something as a “Kids Profile,” you won’t be able to change it back within the app. You’ll have to do so in your internet browser (like Safari or Chrome).

If you want to get more specific in your restrictions, use the “Block Titles” button to remove certain titles from each profile. That means you can easily remove CoComelon from your kid’s rotation—you’re welcome.
You can also set age restrictions on adult profiles. Use the “Profile Lock” setting to create a 4-digit PIN and keep kids out of profiles with different viewing restrictions. Each profile can have its own PIN number regardless of maturity rating.
Kids movies on Netflix

Netflix might not have a ton of live-action content, but it excels in animation. It’s got a huge library of original animated titles like Sony’s Kpop Demon Hunters and Blue Sky’s Nimona, plus licensed IP like Ladybug & Cat Noir and My Little Pony.
Netflix is also streaming every animated Barbie title from 2017 onwards. Unfortunately, you’ll have to buy the older titles on VOD, but good news: The next Barbie flick is coming to theaters, no streaming subscription necessary.
As of writing, Netflix currently has a deal to stream a ton of Dreamworks movies, like Boss Baby and Trolls, plus a few Illumination titles like Sing and The Secret Life of Pets. These aren’t Netflix Originals, so Netflix will probably lose the licenses eventually, but they’ll most likely be replaced by equally entertaining fare.

Netflix also has a fantastic lineup of original animated series. Unfortunately, they’re not immune to whatever supernatural force compels Netflix to cancel good shows before their time, but there’s a huge library of content for you and your family to enjoy.
At the time of writing, Netflix has a deal to stream a ton of live-action Nickelodeon shows, including Henry Danger and iCarly. That means you don’t have to invest in a separate Paramount+ subscription to enjoy the classics, and that’s good news for your wallet.

What other streaming services have movies for kids?
If Netflix isn’t your speed, there are plenty of other streaming services that could work for your family. In 2025, we named Paramount+ the Best of the Best for Kids due to its parental restrictions and robust library of Nickelodeon titles. It’s a great alternative if you’re looking for something similar to Netflix.
There are other kid-friendly streamers, too. Disney+ is an obvious choice for its huge library of Disney, Star Wars, and Marvel content. And Apple TV+ has a lot of new and classic Peanuts films.
