Need to look up the details for your grandniece’s quinceañera? Want to catch your latest shows and evening news on TV? You’ll need a service provider that can meet your needs and budget, but I know how hard that can be to find these days.
If Cox is the main service provider in your area, I understand if its service options seem intimidating. Between Cox’s TV, internet, and phone plans (along with a mountain of fine print), it can take a lot to ensure that you’re not overpaying for the services you need.
To help you out, I dug into Cox’s catalog to find the best deals, discounts, and offers for seniors. Here’s what you need to know if you’re a senior interested in Cox home services.
Cox’s best internet plans for seniors
Internet package | Prices starting at | Download speeds | Upload speeds up to | Details |
---|---|---|---|---|
StraightUp Internet | $50.00/mo.** | 100 Mbps | 5 Mbps |
|
Fast | $50.00/mo. | 300 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
|
**Not available in all areas. No term agreement. Same price for 3 yrs. Pricing, packages, and policies are subject to change, including when adjusting or removing services or equipment.
No annual contract or cancellation fees.

For seniors, my picks for the best Cox senior internet plans are its StraightUp Internet prepaid service and its Fast plan.
As its name suggests, StraightUp Internet is extremely straightforward for a cable internet plan. You’ll pay a flat $50.00/mo. for internet service and won’t have to deal with an annual price hike or hidden fees.
StraightUp Internet isn’t the fastest plan with modest 100 Mbps download speeds, but it’ll be more than enough if you or your household only needs the internet for simple tasks like checking your email or scrolling through social media. Cox also includes a combo Wi-Fi router/modem out of the box, so you can quickly set up your internet connection and get online without needing a technician.
If your grandkids regularly come by or you’re part of a larger household, we’d recommend upgrading to Fast. While you’ll have to deal with a price hike once your promotional period ends, it’ll have much faster download speeds compared to StraightUp Internet.
Cox’s best TV plans for seniors
TV package | Price | Channel count | Popular channels | Details |
---|---|---|---|---|
TV Starter | $71.00/mo. | 75+ | NBC, PBS, The CW |
|
*No Term Agreement. 2 Year Price Guarantee. Pricing, packages, and policies are subject to change, including when adjusting or removing services or equipment. Prices do not include applicable taxes, surcharges, usage-based charges (such as data, toll usage, pay-per-use service), and other fees. After any promotional period, regular rates apply (see www.cox.com).
I’ll preface this recommendation with a huge note: If you’re comfortable with streaming boxes like a Roku or Google TV (or have kids or grandkids who can help you set one up), I say skip signing up for Cox TV. You’ll get way more cable channels for the same price with a live TV streaming service, and you can cancel most streaming services anytime if you don’t end up liking it. (For more info, check out our Cable vs. Streaming Guide.)
If you prefer to stick with Cox, my favorite senior-friendly TV plan is TV Starter. The TV plan comes with a basic 75+ channel lineup that includes local channels like ABC and NBC. Although it lacks a lot of basic cable channels, it’s Cox’s most affordable TV plan by a considerable margin and is more convenient than trying to adjust an antenna on your TV.
But again, if you’ve ever used streaming TV devices like a Google TV or Roku, I recommend signing up for a live TV streaming service like YouTube TV. These platforms offer most of the same channels as Cox at a much lower cost. Check out our Best Live TV Streaming Services guide to learn more.
Does Cox have senior discounts?
Unfortunately, Cox doesn’t have a standard senior discount on its internet, TV, or phone products. But depending on your household’s budget and setup, you might be able to finagle additional savings out of Cox.
Below, I’ve highlighted a few of Cox’s best internet deals—check out our full Cox deals guide for more savings.
- Cox’s Connect2Compete and ConnectAssist programs offer subsidized internet service for households on qualifying government assistance programs.
- Bundle Cox Mobile with your internet service to save $15 per month.
- Refer a friend to Cox and get up to a $125 gift card.
