Are Cox Mobile cell phone plans good?
Cox Mobile is Cox’s cell phone brand, which offers multiple smartphone plans exclusively for Cox internet subscribers. Although these internet service provider (ISP) cell phone services can come with caveats, I still found a lot to like with Cox Mobile.
With Cox Mobile, you’ll get solid pricing, straightforward plan options, and standard features like nationwide 5G coverage (thanks to its Verizon-powered network) and unlimited calls. While Cox Mobile has limitations like a soft data cap, it still earned excellent marks in CableTV.com’s annual Internet Customer Satisfaction Survey and offers great value for price-conscious Cox subscribers.

Why you should trust us: Our expert editors surveyed hundreds of Cox Mobile customers, researched pricing and features, and then rated Cox Mobile phone plans on a five-star scale according to four essential criteria:
Cox Mobile’s cell phone plans cover the basics
Plan | Price for one line* | Full-speed data cap | Details |
---|---|---|---|
Pay As You Gig | $15.00/mo. | $15 per GB |
|
Gig Unlimited | $45.00/mo. | 20GB |
|
*Price per line. Excludes taxes and fees.
Data effective as of publish date. Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change.
Cox keeps things simple with two cell phone plans.
- With Pay As You Gig, you’ll pay $15 for each gigabyte of mobile data you use each month. It’s especially great for older subscribers who aren’t heavy smartphone users and simply need affordable service.
- Gig Unlimited offers a slate of features that’s in line with the major carriers. Every month, you’ll get a 20GB soft data cap, and if you exceed this cap, your download speeds will get throttled to 1.5Mbps (with 750 Kbps upload speeds) for the remainder of the month. That said, you won’t pay any overage fees.
Otherwise, both plans offer identical features like nationwide 5G coverage and unlimited phone calls and texts. I appreciate that Cox Mobile still offers a budget-friendly per-GB plan, as many ISP cell phone plans have dropped them in favor of higher-priced unlimited plans.
Similarly, Gig Unlimited’s 20GB cap is relatively modest compared to competitors like Spectrum Mobile and Xfinity Mobile—both providers have rolled out plans with jumbo-sized data caps.
That said, its price still makes it a great deal compared to the major carriers, and I love that Cox continues to offer stacked per-line discounts. You’ll save $5 per month for each Gig Unlimited line you add to your plan, and you can bring it down to $30 monthly per line with four or more lines.
How reliable is Cox Mobile cell phone service?
As part of CableTV.com’s internet and cell phone reliability research, we talk to thousands of real-life customers for our annual Customer Satisfaction Survey series. Here’s what Cox Mobile customers told us about its service.
Question | Score |
---|---|
How reliable is your Cox Mobile cell phone service? | 73% approval (5th overall) |
Do you notice problems with your phone calls or mobile data during busy periods? | 41% yes, 59% no (4th overall) |
Cox Mobile didn’t necessarily set our polling on fire, but customers who jumped to the provider were generally satisfied with their experience. (We typically consider 70% approval to be a passing mark in our surveys.)
Cox Mobile ranked right behind the major carriers and Xfinity Mobile for reliability, but it also outclassed competitors like Optimum Mobile and Astound Broadband. Similarly, Cox Mobile’s Verizon-powered network kept subscribers online during busy periods—it was beaten out only by Verizon, Xfinity Mobile, and Optimum Mobile.
Cox Mobile has great features and deals
As with other ISP cell phone plans, Cox Mobile doesn’t necessarily have a bounty of bonuses for new subscribers. But you’ll still get a number of deals and features that’ll provide value for your household. Let’s break down a few of our favorite Cox features and deals.
Cox Mobile internet and phone bundles
Cox Mobile is only available for Cox internet subscribers, but Cox offers multiple enticing deals to encourage you to bundle up.
When you add a Gig Unlimited plan to a qualifying Cox internet plan, you’ll get bonuses like extended price-lock guarantees, free unlimited data, and more. Check out our Cox internet review to learn more about Cox’s internet plans.
Stress-free coverage
ISP cell phone plans typically work by using extra network space from major cell phone carriers like T-Mobile and Verizon. In Cox Mobile’s case, it runs on Verizon’s network, so you’ll get nationwide 5G internet and cell phone coverage.

Free and discounted phones
Cox Mobile offers a deep catalog of phone upgrade options that include the latest models from manufacturers like Apple, Google, and Samsung. Like your current phone? You’ll also be able to bring it with you to Cox Mobile.

What do real Cox Mobile customers think about Cox Mobile?
Cox Mobile performed respectably in our reliability survey section. But when it comes to other satisfaction metrics, Cox Mobile was weighed down by its parent company’s reputation.
- A middling 65% of Cox Mobile respondents felt satisfied with the cost of their internet and cell phone bundle.
- Likewise, only 65% of respondents felt it was easy for Cox customer service to solve their Cox Mobile questions.
- Still, 77% of respondents had high overall satisfaction with their Cox cell phone and internet bundle.
[I’m very satisfied with Cox Mobile] because it has consistently given 5G internet [speeds] and [has] very reliable Internet service.
They provide excellent customer service. I like the idea that they provide a courtesy call when we are about to use too much data.
[I’m only somewhat satisfied with Cox Mobile] because of their data allowances, and I don't like when I get told what I can and can't download.
The service is dependable, and I never have to reach out to them. I also like the data speeds.
Some of these softer scores can be attributed to Cox’s internet pricing. It’s generally been higher than comparable cable internet providers, and Cox has consistently fallen in the middle tier of ISPs for our survey’s price satisfaction polling. That said, Cox still has a network of retail stores and a full customer service team that can help solve basic service issues.
