Are T-Mobile cell phone plans good?

Shopping for cell phone service can be a minefield these days. But if you want maximum features and performance, we think there’s a lot to like about T-Mobile’s cell phone plans.

T-Mobile offers standard features like nationwide 5G and truly unlimited data on its cell phone plans. While its pricing is in line with other major carriers, T-Mobile has one of the best subscriber benefit programs around, and was a stellar performer in CableTV.com’s annual Internet Customer Satisfaction Survey.

Still on the fence about springing for a major carrier like T-Mobile? Keep on reading for our full take on T-Mobile’s major cell phone plans.

Why you should trust us: Our expert editors surveyed hundreds of T-Mobile customers, researched pricing and features, and then rated T-Mobile phone plans on a five-star scale according to four essential criteria:

T-Mobile’s three wireless plans cover the basics for most shoppers. Essentials does what its name suggests, as you’ll get only unlimited phone and texts along with 50 GB of full-speed internet data. Experience More and Experience Beyond stack on the features and freebies for potential subscribers.

Experience More outclasses comparable mid-tier plans from other carriers, as you’ll get free Apple TV+ and ad-supported Netflix along with wireless hotspot support. Experience Beyond piles on even more benefits, including free ad-supported Hulu, annual upgrade offers (compared to Experience More’s bi-annual upgrades), and discounted watch or tablet lines.

But unfortunately, these plans won’t come cheap. T-Mobile’s single-line pricing is technically better than AT&T or Verizon, but with pricing that starts at $85.00 monthly for a single mid-tier line, it’ll knock a hole in your wallet unless you spring for a family bundle.

As with other major carriers, T-Mobile also tacks a mandatory $3.99 monthly fee per line. You’ll still get a lot for your money with T-Mobile, but when it comes to price, T-Mobile falls in line with Verizon and AT&T in good and bad ways.

How reliable is T-Mobile cell phone service?

As part of CableTV.com’s internet and cell phone reliability research, we talk to thousands of real-life customers for our annual Customer Satisfaction Survey series.

Question Score
How reliable is your T-Mobile cell phone service? 84% approval
Do you notice problems with your phone calls or mobile data during busy periods? 43% yes, 57% no

84% of T-Mobile respondents approved of T-Mobile’s general reliability, which ranked second among all carriers with internet service and fell only behind Xfinity Mobile. However, 43% of respondents said they noticed service problems during high-traffic times. This mark was slightly higher than Xfinity (36%) and Verizon (30%), but still ranked fifth-best overall.

In short, you’ll get major-carrier performance out of T-Mobile’s network and won’t have to worry about discount carrier problems like constant dropped calls or slow internet speeds. Unlike Verizon, T-Mobile also offers uniform 5G coverage across all three plans and doesn’t split its fastest 5G speeds to its more expensive plans.

T-Mobile has a bounty of features, freebies

Between free phones, discounts, and random subscriptions, the freebies and features arms race is hotter than ever among major carriers. Let’s break down some of the biggest options that’ll come with your T-Mobile cell phone plan.

  • 82% of respondents felt it was easy to solve their customer service problems with T-Mobile.
