Internet providers are practically giving away new iPhones
If you pay even the least bit of attention to tech news, you’ll know that Apple launched the new iPhone 17 line a couple of weeks ago. Many providers have decided to cash in on this excitement, capitalizing on the general public’s obsession with all things Apple (except for you Android die-hards, you know who you are).
While doing my monthly round of comprehensive deals updates, I noticed a pattern of free iPhone 17s being offered everywhere I looked, from traditional cell phone providers like T-Mobile to internet service providers (ISPs) with their own mobile bundles like Optimum.
So IMO, if you’re looking to switch providers (internet or mobile) and love to upgrade to the latest tech, now is the time to do it.

How to claim your free iPhone 17
Optimum is the only provider that allows you to get a free iPhone 17 by signing up for a new internet plan, rather than a mobile plan. To get your free iPhone 17, simply sign up for any Optimum Internet plan that’s 500 Mbps or higher. A word of warning, though. Optimum definitely isn’t my favorite ISP out there—just read through my colleague Eric Chiu’s 2025 internet customer satisfaction survey to see why.
Other providers are requiring trade-ins of qualifying phones and new mobile lines to get new iPhone 17s: AT&T, Cox, and Xfinity. New lines and qualifying trade-ins are pretty part and parcel of most free phone promos, so I can’t be too mad. Qualifying phones vary between providers (often they require an iPhone from at least the past few generations), so read up before you trade in.
To my pleasant surprise, there are no phone trade-in requirements in sight for T-Mobile and Verizon, except for the requirement to open new phone lines.

Some things never change …
While some providers tend to switch out deals on the reg, others like to keep things more stable (which I appreciate, seeing as I personally update all 20+ of our deals pages each month😅).
